Twitter users get ready for Liverpool Twestival
LIVERPOOL is set to stage the city's second fundraising Twitter Festival - Twestival - with proceeds going to boost the work of Clatterbridge Cancer Research.
Users of the online social media site Twitter - a favourite with celebrities such as Stephen Fry, Lily Allen and Philip Schofield - raised ã500 for international aid organisation "charity.water" at the first Twestival held in February, and after being given the opportunity to choose a local charity for the second fundraising event, opted for Clatterbridge.

The event this Thursday (September 10), which takes place at Leaf Tea Shop and Bar, is an opportunity for people who use Twitter - a micro-blog which invites users to post short mesages about what they are doing - to meet up, chat and listen to live music. Among performers donating their time for free are Danny Morris (ex-Eton Road) and close-up magician Dan Burgess.
Auctions and raffles will be held through the evening, with organisations including Virgin Trains, Paver Smith, Purple Wines, Yaffe Photography and ScreenCastsOnline donating prizes.
Organiser Mandy Phillips said: "Liverpool Twestival is a great event because it brings together the local community, building business networks and raising funds for a deserving local charity such as Clatterbridge Cancer Research.
"By meeting in a face to face environment, those conversations that often start online can be taken to a new level. In addition, the events are always fun, informal and relaxed."
Samantha Legget, Business Development Director at CCR, said: "We were so excited to have won the vote and are really grateful to everyone that supported us.ÃÂ
"We have only been using Twitter for a couple of months and it has really caused a buzz in the office.ÃÂ The team loves chatting about what the next tweet will be and when we get people registering for our events, like the Circle of Hope Bike Ride, or the London Marathon it's great!ÃÂ We've even recruited volunteers and marshal's for events through tweeting.ÃÂ It has been a really good way of spreading the word about our events and what we're up to.
"Twitter has been brilliant for us while we are having a new website built, although we haven't got the full website we can still keep in touch with people and let them know about the work that we're doing and the events that are coming up."
Twestival starts at 6pm. Find out more about the event here or by following @lpooltwestival on Twitter.
