Liverpool One masterplanner BDP moves to the development
ARCHITECTURE practice BDP is moving its Merseyside practice to Liverpool One - the £1bn shopping and leisure complex it masterplanned.
BDP's studio head Andrew Teage says the office will focus on masterplanning and regeneration work in the city region and beyond, as it bids to increase its client base.
The company's plan for Grosvenor's Liverpool One project was shortlisted for this year's Stirling Prize.
BDP, which is based in Manchester, will move from the Rope Walks to its new office in spring.
Mr Teage, who leads BDP's north of England town planning team, said: "The new Liverpool studio will continue to deliver current major projects, seek and develop new commissions and maintain client relationships.
"The current Liverpool architectural staff will also adopt a far wider geographical remit and will work across all BDP projects, principally from our headquarters and our other northern studios.
"This change of emphasis is informed by BDP's belief that, for Liverpool to continue successfully on its journey of urban renewal, the role of the inner-urban and suburban areas of the city will be key.
"The rejuvenation of Liverpool's neighbouring towns, local centres and their hinterlands will also play a vital part in the region's successful regeneration."
BDP has also worked for Chester Renaissance and on masterplanning projects in areas from Liverpool's Ropewalks to Widnes Waterfront.
Mr Teage said: "We believe the key development and design principles adopted from completing such significant commissions will help put us at the forefront of Merseyside's transformation into an internationally-renowned city region."
Terry Davenport, who has been head of the Liverpool studio since it opened in 2003, has now taken on a wider role as the northern head of BDP's retail sector arm.
Mr Davenport, who led the Liverpool One project from inception to completion, will oversee all retail-led commercial projects delivered by BDP's Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield and Liverpool studios.
He said: "The success of Liverpool One has meant both BDP and I are increasingly becoming involved in the delivery of significant retail and mixed-use projects across the UK and overseas."
